The Soul Potencies

The Soul Potencies that the human being is endowed with are:

  • The power to attract at will and know the Ideas and other contents of the Universal Mind.
  • The power to contact other human selves and the Intelligent Essences that constitute all other forms in the Solar System.
  • The power to attract and give shape to mental substance in order to create thought-forms.

The power to attract at will and know the “Ideas” and other contents of the Universal Mind:

“Ideas” are, actually, points of light that contain the archetypes or patterns of creation in the Universe. They are abstract in nature and do not refer to circumstantial details. For example, when someone says, “I have an idea”, it usually means that the person is thinking about something concrete known as a “thought-form” in the Wisdom Teachings.

In our Solar System all “Ideas” can be classified into seven major divisions or streams of thought-energy. The human Soul is attuned to all seven of these streams. However, each Soul naturally has a more particular resonance with one stream of archetypal “Ideas” due to the magnetic quality of the Soul’s own intrinsic energies. This natural makeup found in all Souls automatically differentiates humanity into seven soul groups with distinguishable psychological qualities.

This Soul potency endows the human being with the power to contact the Universal Mind — that is, to contact the Source of the evolutionary Plan and the Storehouse of the Archetypes of all forms and the Formulas of Creativity.

For example, the so-called “genius” is an individual whose mental equipment enables him to touch a strand or strands within one of the streams of “Ideas” emanating from the Universal Mind for our planet and Solar System. In comparison, the enlightened human being who is completely aware of the powers of Spirit can contact at will all seven streams of “Ideas” — this human being is, in time and space, an agent of creation of far more reaching effects than the so-called “genius”.

The power to contact other human selves and the Intelligent Essences that constitute all other forms in the Solar System:

The Soul energy in the human constitution is above all the energy of sentientness. That is, it is the energy that enables one to feel and be aware of consciousness in oneself and others. The presence of this Soul energy in every human being is the source of the keen power of sentientness, warmth and love that characterizes Earth's humanity. Because of this potency, human beings attract to themselves that which within their being possesses a similar sentient energy to their own and repel from themselves that which is made up of different sentient energies.

The capacity to attract and enter into rapport with all beings and groups of beings in our Solar System is thus founded on the empowerment given by the Soul to each human being.

This capacity to contact and to be contacted by other selves and Intelligent Essences can be used in all the planes or dimensions that constitute our Earth and Solar System — these are: the physical, astral and mental planes, and in the so-called spiritual realms.

The power to gather and give shape to mental substance in order to create thought-forms:

The capacity to create mental representations of everything that one perceives is a faculty present in all the Spirits or Sentient Beings emanating from “the Cause of All that Is”. The human Self has this faculty and for this reason the Self is also known as a Thinker.

The important point here is that the energies of the Soul automatically and instantaneously respond to the mental representations created by the human Self at its center. These mental representations, aided by the powers of creative imagination and visualization, cause the Soul to project a portion of itself onto the surrounding mental environment and to organize it in a given shape. In turn, the attracting power of the projected Soul energy gathers energies of Matter (in this case, mental energies) to materialize the thought within the field of awareness of the creator.

But there is more regarding thought creation. In the previous paragraph we learned that when the human being focuses the attention upon any idea (abstract or concrete), the idea is immediately clothed with mental substance because of the attracting, magnetic power of the Soul. This Soul attractiveness also magnetizes the entire thought-form, making of it a magnetic center that attracts other related thoughts. Associated and complementary thought-forms are born in this way, and analogous thought-forms emanating from other minds anywhere in the Solar System are also attracted in this way.

The power to create thought-forms is the power to shape Space and Time, a power which is readily available to all human beings once the power of thinking is understood and practiced. This capacity to work at will with mental energies is what makes of the human being an intelligent agent of creation.

From the above description of the potencies of the Soul there are two concepts of importance to consider:

  1. The first one is that there are three types of mental substances or energies, as follows:
    • The substance of abstract Ideas — It is the most rarefied of the mental energies and vibrates at the highest rate.
    • The substance or energy of the Soul itself — It is qualified by the tremendous attracting power of the Universal Mind (because it is mix of Love and Mind).
    • The substance used to construct thought-forms or concrete ideas — It is the most concrete or dense of the mental energies and used by human beings when they are thinking.

    These three mental energies are part of the energies of Matter, hence, their responsiveness to the mental dictates of the human Self. Usually, through the current process of education and daily living found in our modern cultures, the individual human being learns to contact and use at will, to a certain degree, the substance of common thought-forms. The conscious contact and conscious use of the two other types of mental substance are achieved through mastering the techniques of so-called “scientific meditation”.

  2. The second concept is that the quality of the energy of the Soul — that is, Love energy — impresses the substance of thought-forms with magnetism and penetrability (i.e., radiatory potency).
    This qualification explains the power and the success surrounding mentally oriented individuals, and it will be more noticeable as more human beings learn to use with intelligence the power of thought because of the availability of educational opportunities.

    Unfortunately, this Soul power is often used for selfish and self-centered interests because of the materialistic way of thinking of most human beings. The potencies of the Soul are meant to be used for the common good and not for self-centered purposes. This is a goal for each human being, and it is arrived at when the Love nature of the Soul begins to qualify not only our analytical, rational mind but also our desire-emotional nature and our physical body.
