The Physical Body

Soul living means to live each moment of the daily life with a keen awareness of the eternal part of our Being — the Soul. This requires an effort and a discipline on our part to embrace the Truth of our Being at all times and in all circumstances. Yet this kind of work involves, not a discipline of restriction, but a discipline of expansion.

The Discipline of Vitality and Magnetism

Goal: A healthy, vital and sound physical body that can withstand the impact and the flow of the higher energies coming from the planes of Soul and Spirit. This includes, mainly, a responsive and sensitive brain that can tune in to and receive the intentions of the Soul, the Ideas of the Universal Mind and the Light of Spirit.

Before enumerating the physical fundamentals, let us first expand our understanding of VITALITY and MAGNETISM:

Vitality is the degree of Life energy that a form can receive, utilize and express. The Life energy available to us comes from three sources:

  • From the Sun and the core of the Earth — this includes the energy available to us through food and air.
  • From the astral plane — this is pure, unqualified psychic energy, better known as “the astral light”, which is received through the solar plexus center in the feeling body and used by us to energize our mental, feeling and physical bodies with the right use of desire and aspiration.
  • From the Soul itself — this is the highest and most powerful form of Life energy available to us. For a perfect and resilient physical body these three types of Life energy must be properly received, utilized and expressed by us.

Magnetism is the natural byproduct of the right absorption, right use and right expression or radiation of the Life energy in our being.

Magnetism is essentially a quality impressed upon the substances of our bodies by the flow of the Life energy through them. It shows itself as resilience to the impacts of all kinds of energies and as an attractiveness to the purest and most refined energies of the physical, feeling, mental and soul levels. It also shows itself as a capacity to reflect the Light of the Soul without lessening or distorting its quality.

Fundamentals for a physical living that seeks to reflect the Light of the Soul include, among others:

  1. PROPER NUTRITION — Eat a well balanced diet. Do not eat more than what is needed to keep the energy of your physical body at an optimal level, without ups and downs. Gradually adopt a “vegetarian” diet. Eat fruits, nuts, whole grains and vegetables from plants that directly grow under the light of the Sun. As is possible, eat them in their natural state or with a minimal amount of cooking or processing (the closer they are to their natural state, the more vitality they bring to the body). When a complete vegetarian diet is not feasible (due to health or other circumstances), limit the intake of animal flesh and highly processed foods as much as you can. Drink plenty of pure, well-oxygenated water.
  2. PROPER SUBSTANCES — Avoid the consumption of substances harmful to the vital elements of the body such as alcohol, nicotine and other stimulants. When possible, and following your common sense, avoid the ingestion or use of chemicals of all kinds, including unnecessary medicines. Avoid the use of strong perfumes and wear natural fabrics — perfumes and synthetic fabrics insulate your body from the needed Life energies of the Sun and the core of the Earth.
  3. PROPER REST — Balance the everyday activities with enough rest (physical, emotional and mental). Sleep according to the rhythms of Nature and the needs of the physical body. Erratic rhythms of sleeping cause unnecessary stress and produce a lack of synchronization between the physical and the etheric aspects of your body. This disrupts the proper flow of the vital energies coming from the Sun through the various organs and anatomical systems. Remember also that when your physical body is under physiological stress, you are more susceptible to emotional reactions and your capacity to think and focus is impaired.
  4. PROPER HYGIENE — Cultivate hygienic habits for your body and your environment. This includes the use of abundant water in the everyday living, both internally by drinking enough fluids and externally by the liberal use of water to wash the body and to keep your environment and possessions clean. Avoid the use of electric devices near your face, head and neck (such as hair dryers and electric razors); these create strong electromagnetic fields that easily disturb the energy centers in the head and body. For the same reason, avoid the use of electric blankets.
  5. PROPER EXERCISE — Engage in outdoor activities and practice moderate physical exercise each day. Non-strenuous exercises, such as a brisk walk, allow the physical body to better receive, process and use the energy of the Sun and the energy contained in fresh air. Also learn and practice regularly a few simple exercises to strengthen the muscles of your back and spine (including the neck) so that your body always sits properly and distributes its weight in balanced proportions.
  6. PROPER BREATHING — Train the body to breath deeply at regular intervals so that all the air in the lungs is regularly renewed — air that is fresh has a high content of Life energy of solar and cosmic origin. Train the body to breath only through the nose. The sinus cavities adjust the temperature and moisture of the air to the optimal levels for the lungs to work efficiently. The lungs are also an important organ for the elimination of toxins from the body.
  7. PROPER ACTIVITY — Simplify your life and activities to those essentials that are truly meaningful to you. Avoid forcing yourself to do all the unnecessary running around engendered by materialistic societies. Remember to include activities every day that engage the four sides of your being (the physical, the feeling, the mental and the spiritual sides).
  8. PROPER ENVIRONMENT — Create a living environment conducive to balance, health and perfection. Surround yourself with beauty, harmony and cleanliness — you will breathe them into your body, mind and soul, through your eyes, through your ears and through your whole being. Remember that true beauty is found in simplicity.
Commentary:

Above all, we need to use common sense. Our focus should remain on the global perspective of Soul Living because all the subtle bodies affect the physical body (and are affected by it).

We need not look at the final goal of a sane and perfect physical vehicle with trepidation. The important point to remember is to strive to refine the tendencies of the form, that is, to train the body to be healthy and vibrant with vitality. We will carry these tendencies beyond this lifetime.

After starting to direct our steps towards the goal, the body itself will soon ask for the proper disciplines on its own account. This is the secret of cultivating a rhythm of living.

The greatest natural principle is that Energy does not age — and our body is Energy and nothing else.

It is because of this principle that a body of any age will always answer positively to these directives. It loves to be healthy and to have a consistent rhythm of living.

The disciplines of the Physical also extend to our surroundings. So our living environment should reflect and complement the purity and the magnetism that we are striving for in our physical body.

In summary, the objective of the Discipline of Vitality and Magnetism is to train the physical body to be the perfect instrument for our Soul and Its highest intentions. Yet, to succeed in the physical, we also need to use the power of our desire — we need to consciously cultivate a deep desire for alignment and union with the Soul.

It is at this point that the “Fundamentals for the Desire and Feeling Nature” offer valuable resources.
