Rules for the Path

How can we develop harmony within and remain at the center of our being with a deep calm that nothing can disturb?

By following the Middle Path — answer the Wisdom Teachings — the Path along which we use the creative resources of our heart and mind to make of us a Living Temple “not made with human hands” that reveals the Glory of Divinity on Earth.

The Middle Path is trodden in the full light, a light that is thrown upon the Path by Those who know and lead. Naught can then be hidden, and at each turn, one must face oneself.

Upon the Middle Path the hidden stands revealed. We see and know our self-centeredness, our harmfulness, our crass ignorance, and our limitations. And yet there is, with this great revelation about ourselves, no turning back, no spurning of each other, and no shakiness upon the Path.

Upon the Middle Path one wanders not alone. There is no rush, no hurry. And yet there is no time to lose. We all are Pilgrims on our way back to the Center of All. Knowing this, we press our footsteps forward and find ourselves surrounded by our fellow human beings. Some move ahead; we follow after. Some move behind; we set the pace. We travel not alone.

Three things we Pilgrims must avoid: The wearing of a hood, that is, the veils and masks of personality which hide our true face from others; the carrying of a water pot that only holds enough for our own wants; and the shouldering of a staff without a crook to extend in help to others.

We, Pilgrims on the Middle Path, must carry with us all what we need: A pot of fire, to warm our fellow humans; a lamp, to cast its rays upon our heart and to show our fellow humans the nature of our hidden life; a purse of gold, which we scatter not upon the Path but share with others; and a sealed vase, wherein we carry all our aspirations to cast before the feet of the One Who waits to greet us at the Door — a sealed vase.

We Pilgrims, as we walk upon the Path, must have the open ear, the giving hand, the silent tongue, the chastened heart, the golden voice, the rapid foot, and the open eye that sees the Light. We know we travel not alone.
