Questions and the Spiritual Path

Dear Friend:

The formulation of questions is a very useful tool on the Path to the Center of All Being; yet as every tool, it needs to be learned and mastered for it to be truly efficient.

Only neophytes of the Path exhibit an uncontrolled tendency to formulate minute questions on the various fields of the Wisdom — usually, without even a clear grasp of the major fundamental principles upon which the entire body of the Wisdom is built. Only beginners expect to obtain clear-cut answers right away when their mental and etheric equipment are not yet ready to truly grasp and understand.

Questions are really useful tools when they allow us to focus our mind on those aspects of the Universal Mind that our field of Service asks of us to embody and express. Entering the Universal Mind should then be an act of Service.

Entering the Universal Mind for the sake of increasing one’s field of knowledge without a prompt release of the energy of knowledge in the form of a living, practical and creative expression produces a dangerous condition of congestion and crystallization in the mental body. This can lead, in the milder cases, to developing an overpowering, unduly forceful personality that has a hard time interacting with others and, in the extreme cases, to brain tumors or insanity.

Entering the Universal Mind just for the sake of increasing one’s personal store of knowledge is not as rare among students of the Wisdom as one may think. All that is needed is a strong personal determination to know more — the motives here are irrelevant; it can be a very altruistic motive based on a personal desire to serve in a future time, or it can be a very selfish one. Conscious registration of the contact with the Universal Mind Field is usually lacking in most of these cases; nonetheless, ideas or portions of ideas emanating from the Universal Mind do reach the minds of the inquiring ones. What most people fail to realize is that the contents of knowledge (of any kind of knowledge) are energies of an electric and fiery nature and that they should be properly received and handled.

Questions are really useful tools when they are formulated as an act of love; that is, when they have nothing to do with any personal gain but with the silent cry for help of those around us. The great dividing line between the Path of Light and the Dark Path begins with this simple difference.

The disciple of the Light and the Master of the Wisdom always seek to fully identify themselves with the needs and the plight of all others — when and after one succeeds in this identification, the knowledge and the power of the Heavens truly become one’s lot. On the other hand, the disciple and the master of the Shadows seek only to know and to gain power over the Forces of Creation, all with a personal gain in mind. As we can see, the two approaches are completely different: one is motivated by love and identification, the other by desire and determination.

Questions are really useful tools when they are never voiced to anyone but are silently placed under the Light of the Soul. They thus become a source of undisturbed, concentrated power that propels us towards realms of divine experience and understanding otherwise sealed to us.

We could say in this respect that one becomes an Initiate of the Light and a Master of the Wisdom by becoming spiritually self-sufficient. Experienced disciples know that many of their questions remain unanswered for many years, sometimes even for lifetimes, yet the disciples learn to live with this situation. They accept that as long as their equipment (i.e., their inner bodies) is not refined enough, complete knowledge and understanding will elude them. This does not become a source of frustration and impatience but a reason for a firmer commitment to refine their forms on the altar of Service, even though the process may take lifetimes.

A Master and Teacher of Wisdom and Compassion at the center of a Group Life has not the role of being a source of information, nor are the members of the Teacher’s Group focused on the need for gaining knowledge — and never is it too soon to start preparing oneself for this level of group life!

Everyone in the Inner Group of a Master of Wisdom knows that the development of the etheric and other inner bodies wrought out in the fields of Service naturally facilitate the acquisition of the needed knowledge. The initial stages of this development is a slow process, very slow, a fact which many times frustrates the beginner; yet it is a wisely designed process.

The central role of the Master and Teacher of Wisdom is to become one with the Source of All Life and to bring down and distribute within the Inner Group the energies of Life and Purpose.

The task of the disciples and initiated disciples is to become one with the consciousness of the Master and Teacher. This allows the disciples to formulate those aspects of the Plan that the Group will energize and implement — I have used here words and expressions that are insufficient to describe spiritual events and processes that are beyond the mind, but I hope that you will get the idea.

Remember thus, dear friend, to formulate questions regarding the Wisdom and the Path — questions that are an act of Service, that are motivated by Love, and that are silently placed on the altar of your Soul.

May the Blessings of the Great Host of Light surround your being and life conditions.

In Light and Love,

A Fellow Traveler
