As with any other creative act, the creation of Community requires a focal point, a magnetic idea that can attract the necessary elements to make it whole. The focal point for the creation of Community is the perfection of the individual.
The perfection of the individual grows and expands in an environment in which unlimited opportunities exist for each one to arrive to fruition as each one sees it.
The role of Community is to prepare an environment or ways of interaction that allow all individuals to meet their needs on their paths to fruition. To fulfill this role, Community, as individuals and as a whole, needs to accept and understand others without expectations or judgment and needs to provide practical, tangible means that can allow each one the freedom to come to fruition — the only reason for Community to exist is to facilitate the use of the gift of freedom towards perfection that the One Infinite Source of All has entrusted to each of us.
However, in spite of the gift of individual freedom none of us alone can arrive to fruition; least of all if we are motivated by selfishness or by a spirit of competition. To discover, to experience and to really know our possibilities of perfection and fulfillment involves giving freely of ourselves, sharing of ourselves; in other words, it involves serving others.
The ideal community is, therefore, a system of ways of interaction between human beings, between human beings and Nature, and between human beings and the entire Universe that allows each individual, and all in Nature and the Universe, to expand towards perfection — expanding towards perfection is the natural result of discovering what we truly are and our possibilities; a discovery that is only possible when we live the way of harmony and peace with ourselves and all others.
But creating ways of interaction is like designing the structure of a communication system: something must eventually flow through it. It is at this point that the most careful choices are needed in the creation of a community based on the Principles of Community. In Community what flows between its individual members is the energy of Love: it is the energy of a conscious desire to care for the growth, the harmony and the well-being of others without having expectations.
The practical expression of caring for others is to share, to give, to serve freely without expectations and without judgment. This is the tangible energy that really builds Community — good desires and thoughts alone, without hands in action, do not build Community.
Although the focal point for the creation of Community is the perfection of the individual, the only way to build Community is to cooperate, to come together in agreement, with a concert of wills, with the goal of facilitating the growth of each and all.
The builder of Community is group creativity and the energy that activates and keeps alive this level of creativity is Love — the conscious desire to care for each other.
The essential difference found between Community as it is expressed in countless places in the Universe and the present-day societies on Earth is not that the needs of the individual are different. The difference is found in the attitudes and in the commitment to serve others in their individual and group process of perfection.
In summary, Community is created by individuals consciously choosing to abide by the Principles of Community. The focal point and goal of Community is the perfection of each and all individuals. The energy that builds Community is Love practically and effectively expressed. The tools to be energized with Love are desires and creative thoughts focused on serving others. And the builders of Community are individuals coming together in harmony to manifest the Common Good.
